Ancient History deals with the Mediterranean region and the areas bordering it during the antiquity, between about 1500 B.C. and about 600 A.D., meaning the epochs of the Aegean Bronze Age, the Archaic period, the classical Greek city-states, Hellenism, the Roman Republic and Empire, and Late Antiquity.
The field of Medieval History deals with the thoughts and actions of people from the5th to the 15th centuries. The geographical focus is on Europe, with special consideration of Switzerland, but also on the peripheral regions as intercultural meeting places.
Modern History deals with the epochs from the 16th Century to the present, divided into the early modern period (16th to 18th century), the Sattelzeit (18th/19th century), modern history (19th/20th century) and contemporary history (recent past).
