Dear Members of the UZH Geschichtskontor
Thank you very much for taking the time to talk about my dissertation project. Enclosed I send you an excerpt of my dissertation, which I hope to complete and defend at the end of the current academic year.
I would like to have you read Chapter 1 “Movement and Locality in the Kuroshio Region,” admittedly a somewhat experimental piece. Please keep in mind that this chapter is intended to set the stage for a longue durée perspective that cover the 19th and 20th centuries. The chapter consciously keeps a local focus to balance the intellectual debates at the center of the subsequent chapters with an expanded geographical scope. I would love to have you critique the text’s intelligibility as an independent piece, but I thought it may be wise to also include a two-page abstract and the introduction to the entire dissertation for context. Please don’t feel obligated to read the whole document, since time is precious.
In any case, I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
Since this is a pre-publication draft of my prospective book, I ask you to ***REFRAIN FROM CITING OR CIRCULTATING*** this text unless explicitly authorized.
Thank you so much again for your interest, and I look forward to e-meeting you on Oct. 13.
Best,
Jonas
